The Iowa Sports Turf Managers
Association was founded in 1986 by Dr. Mike Agnew and Mr.
Gary Peterson of Iowa State University Extension, with Mike
Loan of Blue Grass Enterprises as the first President. ISTMA
became an affiliate member of the National Sports Turf
Managers Association in 1995. In 1995, ISTMA moved its
office to Ames in association with the ITI, IPLCA and Iowa
GCSA. ISTMA is committed to serving its membership and
advancing the profession of sports turf managers throughout
the State of Iowa.
ISTMA’s
purpose is to collect and disseminate scientific,
professional and practical knowledge through association
with those persons engaged in or concerned with the research
and maintenance of safe and improved sports turf areas.
ISTMA promotes the design, development and use of related
materials, supplies and equipment in the sports turf
industry. ISTMA collects and supplies current
information on effective management practices for the
improvement in quality and safety of all sports facilities.
ISTMA members represent all segments of the sports turf
industry: football, soccer, baseball, softball, rugby,
lacrosse, field hockey, racetracks, and golf. ISTMA is
