2012 Internship - Spring Hill Golf Club

Spring Hill Golf Club is located fifteen miles west of Minneapolis, Minnesota in the suburb of Wayzata.  Spring Hill is a Tom Fazio designed private club that opened for play in June 1999. We have a limited local membership and a small number of national members.  Annually rounds are 7,000. 

We are looking for two highly motivated individuals to work in coordination with the management staff to implement sound maintenance practices to achieve optimal turfgrass conditions.  The job will involve the student in the refinement of turfgrass quality and a few special projects mentioned below.

 Position:  Student Internship for 2012 golf season

 Course Operation:  Private course, open for approximately a six month season, 18 holes, 7,153 yards, L-93 bentgrass greens, Dominant bentgrass tees and fairways, Kentucky bluegrass primary rough, fine fescue blend secondary rough, Toro LTC Plus  irrigation system

 Duties:  Intern student will be involved in all aspects of golf course grounds management including, but not limited to, fertilizer and chemical application with strict record keeping, course set-up, irrigation repair and maintenance, daily mowing operations, crew supervision duties

Special Projects: Irrigation installation and improvements, tee renovations, and small scale drainage additions  

 Salary and Benefits: Hourly wage will be $10.00.  The intern will be expected to be flexible with scheduling while working 50 – 60 (or more) hours per week with overtime paid after 40 hours.   Housing, lunch, and uniforms will be provided at no charge, golf privileges

 Education:  Candidate is expected to have completed at least half of the required course work towards a degree in golf course turfgrass management

 Criteria for Evaluation:  Planning and problem solving skills, job enthusiasm, professionalism, technical knowledge, cooperation with peers

Full Time Groundskeeper – Prairie Ridge Sports Complex

 

The City of Ankeny has a need for a full time employee interested in maintaining the sports complex fields and grounds.  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one-year experience in sports turf maintenance, lawn care, landscaping, horticulture, or related field.

 

Duties include field prep, irrigation, landscaping, turf maintenance, and general grounds maintenance.  Candidates must be able to work outside in extreme weather conditions, be able to lift and carry 75 pounds, and be able to obtain a chemical applicator’s certification and a CDL issued by the State of Iowa.  Hours M-F 7am-3:30pm, also must be able to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

Post offer physical and drug screen is required.  Starting salary for this position is $15.29 per hour plus excellent benefits.  A civil service qualifying written examination will be given on Wednesday, February 1st at 1:00 pm at the Ankeny Fire Department, 120 NW Ash Dr.

PURPOSE:         Performs a variety of professional, general administrative, maintenance and supervisory duties related to planning, coordinating and directing all phases of golf course maintenance and beautification, buildings and facilities maintenance, construction and repair.  Work is performed in a customer service oriented environment that values team work, innovation and creativity.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, upkeep and   beautification         of turf, golf facilities and related environ;


OR
·        An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 SCHEDULES & COMPENSATION:              

·        Full time position with excellent benefits including center membership.  Salary range $32,162 to $38,674 per year (Wage DOE)

·        Position works a varying schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays dependent upon seasonal demands and workload.
